Radiesse: The Collagen-Stimulating Filler You'll Love for Long-Term Lift
Radiesse is categorically different from most other fillers in a couple of key ways. First of all, unlike fillers that add volume and gradually dissolve, Radiesse uses entirely different mechanisms (and ingredients) to support healthy volume. Namely, the use of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) allows this filler to stimulate a healing response from the body that supports long-term results.

Feeling a bit flooded by filler options? As giddy as we get watching one innovation after another elevate the already promising world of dermal fillers, we understand that not everyone keeps up as closely as our team at Truly You Med Spa.
With that in mind, let us welcome you to a completely beginner-friendly introduction to a filler that has been around for upwards of two decades, but not to be lumped in with the others: Radiesse.
What Makes Radiesse Different?
Radiesse is categorically different from most other fillers in a couple of key ways. First of all, unlike fillers that add volume and gradually dissolve, Radiesse uses entirely different mechanisms (and ingredients) to support healthy volume. Namely, the use of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) allows this filler to stimulate a healing response from the body that supports long-term results.
The calcium hydroxylapatite in Radiesse is delivered as microspheres suspended in a gel carrier. When injected beneath the surface of the skin, this gel provides an immediate volume boost (like other fillers), but with the added benefit of collagen production. The microspheres create a scaffold that encourages your body to produce new collagen over the following months, allowing for results that continue to improve during this window.
Calcium hydroxylapatite is found naturally in human bones and teeth and has been used in the medical field for decades, making it a safe, biocompatible ingredient for dermal fillers. Over time, your body naturally processes the calcium hydroxylapatite as collagen fibers develop and mature.
Why Should You Choose Radiesse?
Longevity
While most traditional fillers last between six and twelve months, Radiesse can provide beautiful results for twelve to eighteen months (key aftercare tips to follow). Some patients even report seeing results lasting up to two years.
Several factors can affect how long your results last, including:
- The treatment area
- Your age and skin quality
- The amount of filler injected
- Lifestyle and aftercare practices
Versatility
Radiesse is certainly not the only dermal filler option out there that excels at treating moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds (especially nasolabial folds), but that’s just one of its several proven applications. This FDA-approved injectable is also highly effective for enhancing volume in hollow cheeks, sharpening jawline contours and improving the appearance of aging hands.
Structural Support
Because Radiesse is formulated to be thicker and more robust than many hyaluronic acid fillers, it can provide a higher level of structural support. This makes it an ideal option for areas that need more significant lifting and contouring. The calcium microspheres create a framework that supports the overlying tissue for a lift that looks and feels natural.
The Best of Both Worlds
You still get instant results with Radiesse, but even better, you can walk out of your appointment knowing that your results will improve over the following months as collagen activity ramps up. In fact, many patients find that their results look better around the three-month mark than they did immediately after treatment.
How Radiesse Fits Into Your Skincare Plan
Radiesse works beautifully as a standalone treatment, but our team at Truly You Med Spa can also pair it with other procedures to deliver more well-rounded results. Many of our patients choose to combine Radiesse with neurotoxin treatments. While neurotoxins like Botox smooth dynamic wrinkles caused by muscle movement, Radiesse addresses static wrinkles and volume loss.
You can also strategically pair Radiesse with other types of dermal fillers for a more well-balanced aesthetic. For example, you can use a softer hyaluronic acid filler for more delicate areas like the lips, while Radiesse targets deeper facial features and contours.
Radiesse also complements skin resurfacing treatments beautifully. Procedures like chemical peels or laser treatments improve skin texture and tone at the surface level, while Radiesse works deeper to restore volume and structure. When used together, these treatments can take years off your appearance by addressing multiple signs of aging at the same time.
We can time your Radiesse treatment around your schedule, your goals and any complementary treatments you plan to have done. Many of our patients choose to have their initial treatment and then return for a maintenance session twelve to eighteen months later. Over time, you may notice you need less frequent follow-ups as your natural collagen production improves.
Maximizing Your Radiesse Results
Radiesse may be a quick and comfortable nonsurgical treatment, but that doesn’t mean you should take prep and aftercare any less seriously. By following a few simple steps, some of which you may already be practicing as part of your standard skincare regimen, you can help your results look better and last longer.
Pre-Treatment Recommendations
Before we start, a key disclaimer: every patient is unique. Speaking with one of our providers at Truly You Med Spa is the best way to determine the best pre-treatment routine for you. Generally speaking, patients are advised to avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements like aspirin and ibuprofen in the week leading up to their appointment. Avoiding alcohol for at least 24 hours before your procedure is also recommended.
Immediately After Treatment
Mild swelling, redness or tenderness at the injection site(s) is normal, and typically resolves within a few days. Cold compresses can help with swelling and discomfort in the day or two following your treatment. Avoid touching or massaging the treatment sites unless our providers give you specific instructions.
For the first 24 to 48 hours after treatment, avoid strenuous exercise, excessive heat exposure and alcohol consumption. These can all increase blood flow to the face and potentially worsen swelling. Sleep with your head slightly elevated for the first few nights to help reduce any swelling.
Key Practices for Long-Term Results
We can’t emphasize enough the importance of sun protection. Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen (at least SPF 30) daily, and consider wearing wide-brimmed hats when spending extended amounts of time in the sun.
Finally, general wellness practices like staying well hydrated, eating a nutritionally dense diet and avoiding smoking, along with a consistent skincare routine that includes gentle products, will help to safeguard your Radiesse results.
